City of North Vancouver - Don(temporary)

  • Meeting with Staff
    • Next meeting - TBD
  • Casano-Loutet Overpass
    • Have all approvals and funding. Expect construction to start in early 2025.
  • Midtown Connector - HUB top priority
    • High level design work planned for 2024
    • Requested that we be able to provide input on requirements.
      • Central Lonsdale is a Destination, not just a busy road to cross.
  • 3rd St/Cotton/Lower Level Rd
    • Requested they extend bike lane protection for intersection up to Neptune terminal intersection, this has been deferred to work on Midtown.
    • Asked them to repaint bikelanes on Lynn Creek Bridge
  • Upper Levels Greenway
    • 1st Stage (2024) will focus on Highway crossing at Lonsdale
    • Next public engagement late in 2024?

ITC - Jonathan

  • Last Month's meeting was presentation by Translink, but nothing new regarding cycling.
  • Apparently CNV council is discussing the upper level greenway + the lonsdale/hwy overpass later this month. I'm hoping that preliminary designs come to the ITC for input sometime soon.

First Nations - Kira

District of North Vancouver - Stewart

  1. Regular Bi-monthly Meeting with Staff took place in June
  2. Spirit Trail East - Northern route back on the table. Info session held on June 26. Stephen cycled with southern route opposition group (Seymour Neighbourhood Alliance). DNV staff plan to continue to develop western sections up to the point where there is debate about the route.
  3. Projects/sections
    1. MSP upgrades construction started!!
    2. Phibbs Exchange complete. Although DNV welcomed our feedback there is nothing they can do. Main issue of multiple crossings for bridge access is under MoTI jurisdiction. MoTI is planning flood prevention works below the highway so DNV suggested we reach out.
    3. Mountain Highway Safety Improvements - limited budget available and now in design. Meeting July 5 to review with DNV.
    4. Arborlynn connector - working on contract award - expected to start maybe August.
    5. Thanks for all the feedback on debugging the network. Duncan compiled and shared with DNV. Feedback to follow next DNV meeting.
    6. Lime bikes pilot to Deep Cove. Plan also for Phibbs. Advocate for MoTI to allow Lime 'grove' on their property.

District of West Vancouver - Paul/Peter/Mike

Wildwood Lane bike route

  • There was an article about local resident's concerns about safety along Wildwood Lane in the 24 July edition of North Shore News. Wildwood Lane is part of a designated bike route (purple lines on this map: https://wiki.bikehub.ca/images/6/67/Wildwood_Lane_bike_route_map.jpg) north of Hwy 1 that has a bike route overpass connection south across Hwy 1 at 11th Street. Here is a photo from Google Maps: https://wiki.bikehub.ca/images/5/53/Wildwood_Lane_bike_route.jpg
  • It was proposed by the former transportation planner, John Calimente that Wildwood Lane be part of a safer bike route (multi-use path (MUP)) north of Hwy 1 west to Cypress Village from the currently planned MUP crossing of Taylor Way to Westcot Road.
  • Peter sent an email to Jenn Moller, Director of Engineering and Transportation Services suggesting that it might be helpful to inform residents of plans to extend a MUP from Westcot Road westward along the length of Wildwood Lane.
  • Getting local residents on board with proposed improved active transportation infrastructure can sometimes be a problem but in this case it looks like that might not be a problem.

Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure - Mike/Don

  • Repeatedly asked HUB's MoTI prime for information on several projects, but no response.
    • List of cycling Gaps in lower mainland region
    • Capilano road underpass design
    • Lynn Valley Rd underpass design
  • Cathy of HUB HQ is organizing meeting with MoTI's AT team, hopefully this month
  • MOTI has asked for an assessment of the performance of their maintenance contractor Miller Capilano
    • Survey will be read aloud for committee members to grade at our May 2/24 meeting.
    • Don Quote "From a cycling perspective this means the highway shoulders from Horseshoe Bay to Capilano road. All road & pedestrian crossing of the highways, Taylor way and the bridges+accesses (on/off ramps)."
