'''Ambleside Commercial Areas Draft Plan'''
'''Ambleside Commercial Areas Draft Plan'''
*A draft HUB letter has been prepared with our HUB North Shore feedback.
*This is part of the Ambleside Local Area Plan that focuses on the commercial district, which includes the civic site containing the ice arena, Community Centre and Seniors Activity Centre.
'''Plans to improve the Spirit Trail'''
*It contains 11 sections with maps diagrams, illustrations and text outlining the draft content of a future Ambleside LAP.
*Staff are formulating a plan to improve the Spirit Trail, and have applied for $100,000 in the 2025 budget for design and construction.
*Of particular interest to us is section 4: "Commercial District Multimodal Transportation Strategies".
*They are considering dividing the Spirit Trail into 3 segments:
*Here is the diagram associated with this section: https://wiki.bikehub.ca/images/9/9e/2025_Ambleside_LAP_Commercial_District_Multimodal_Tranportation_Strategies.jpg
**Segment 1 – Capilano River to 13th Street
*There are no specifics listed here, so it would be interesting to find out if enhancements to the Spirit Trail would include separating cyclists from pedestrians between 14 and 16th Streets and what cycling options for Bellevue are being considered.
**Segment 2 – 13th Street to 18th Street
*This draft plan is available as Annex D to the Ambleside LAP on the following website: https://www.westvancouverite.ca/plan-ambleside.
**Segment 3 – 18th Street to 26th Street
*Feedback on the Commercial Areas Draft Plan can be provided up to Monday, March 17, 2025 by connecting with staff by email or phone at planambleside@westvancouver.ca(External link) and 604-921-3459.
*The intent is to complete design work for projects in segment 1 and construct one or two projects in 2025.
*Consideration should be given to drafting and submitting a HUB letter as our HUB North Shore feedback.
*If funding is available, thyee would also like to start design work for segment 2 so they have additional projects ready for 2026.
'''E-bike Share Permit Extension and E-scooter Share Policy Development'''

* At its 27 January meeting, Council resolved to extend Lime’s current e-bike share operator permit for up to 6 months to allow for current operations to continue while staff undertakes a Request for Proposal for a future operator and directed staff to undertake policy and program research to consider the inclusion of e-scooter share as part of shared micromobility options on the North Shore

The sketches that are attached are some of the ideas that we will ask the consultant to examine.

Other Projects

We are still waiting for information from BC Hydro about relocating the utility pole in the Marine Drive/31st Street intersection so we can complete the detail design for the intersection and traffic signal.

We are waiting for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s comments on the MUP from Hadden to Westcot along the WB Taylor Way ramps.

We should be going to tender in late February or early March for the construction of the MUP along Marine Drive from the Lionsgate Bridge to Capilano Road.

We are waiting for an update from TransLink to see if they will fund the installation of delineators along the Marine Drive bike lanes.

Requests for action

    • People to show up at council for Spirit Trail 10-Feb. Important - NIMBYs expected in abundance.
      • Biggest opposition from residents (many wealthy folk) on Roslyn & Beachview drives.

Latest news:

  • Spirit Trail funding cut by $5million (only $2.5 million saved by DNV)
    • Support the southern route (or both northern & southern). Southern route is only topology with grades that can be AAA - good for kids, seniors, and "interested by concerned"
  • Mtn Hwy safety for kids - crossing guard motion. Not as good as infrastructure, but a worthwhile band-aid for now.
  • Wayfinding budget - see thread on groups.io. They have taken on board the "No Exit except bikes" concept and plan to work through that in 2025 budget. Add your wayfinding improvements in the spirit of "Debug the network"

Routes expected complete 2025:

  • Marine Drive - LGB to Capilano road - at long last.
  • Arborlynn Connector & Mtn Hwy - very fluid. Paving to be redone this summer. Something may be done. Wayfinding might get done.
  • Complete Salop-Brooskbank-Rufus-Kirkstone - including wayfinding. Almost done as of February 2025.
  • Spirit Trail (Seymour to Windridge and Roche Pt Trail) sections Confirmed, including wayfinding. Expected complete July 2025.

Mtn Hwy at Hwy 1 - Painted lanes south of Hwy 1 both sides

  • In process. Stuck in-between MoTT and DNV. MoTT & DNV liaisons are working through it.
