Requests for action
- People to show up at council for Spirit Trail 10-Feb. Important - NIMBYs expected in abundance.
- Biggest opposition from residents (many wealthy folk) on Roslyn & Beachview drives.
- People to show up at council for Spirit Trail 10-Feb. Important - NIMBYs expected in abundance.
Latest news:
- Spirit Trail funding cut by $5million (only $2.5 million saved by DNV)
- Support the southern route (or both northern & southern). Southern route is only topology with grades that can be AAA - good for kids, seniors, and "interested by concerned"
- Mtn Hwy safety for kids - crossing guard motion. Not as good as infrastructure, but a worthwhile band-aid for now.
- Wayfinding budget - see thread on groups.io. They have taken on board the "No Exit except bikes" concept and plan to work through that in 2025 budget. Add your wayfinding improvements in the spirit of "Debug the network"
Routes expected complete 2025:
- Marine Drive - LGB to Capilano road - at long last.
- Arborlynn Connector & Mtn Hwy - very fluid. Paving to be redone this summer. Something may be done. Wayfinding might get done.
- Complete Salop-Brooskbank-Rufus-Kirkstone - including wayfinding. Almost done as of February 2025.
- Spirit Trail (Seymour to Windridge and Roche Pt Trail) sections Confirmed, including wayfinding. Expected complete July 2025.
Mtn Hwy at Hwy 1 - Painted lanes south of Hwy 1 both sides
- In process. Stuck in-between MoTT and DNV. MoTT & DNV liaisons are working through it.
District of West Vancouver - Peter/Mike C
Ambleside Commercial Areas Draft Plan
- A draft HUB letter has been prepared containing our HUB North Shore feedback.
Plans to improve the Spirit Trail
- Staff are formulating a plan to improve the Spirit Trail, and have applied for $100,000 in the 2025 budget for design and construction.
- They are considering dividing the Spirit Trail into 3 segments:
- Segment 1 – Capilano River to 13th Street
- Segment 2 – 13th Street to 18th Street
- Segment 3 – 18th Street to 26th Street
- The intent is to complete design work for projects in segment 1 and construct one or two projects in 2025.
- If funding is available, they would also like to start design work for segment 2 so they have additional projects ready for 2026.
- The following sketches are some of the ideas that they will ask the consultant to examine for segments 1 and 2: https://wiki.bikehub.ca/index.php?title=File:2025-02-07_Concepts_for_Improvments_to_the_Spirit_Trail_to_Address_Congestion_Complaints.pdf
Other Projects
- They are still waiting for information from BC Hydro about relocating the utility pole in the Marine Drive/31st Street intersection so they can complete the detail design for the intersection and traffic signal.
- They are waiting for the Ministry of Transportation and Transit’s comments on the MUP from Hadden to Westcot along the westbound Taylor Way ramps and across Taylor Way.
- They should be going to tender in late February or early March for the construction of the MUP eastbound along Marine Drive from the Lions Gate Bridge to Capilano Road.
- They are waiting for an update from TransLink to see if they will fund the installation of delineators along the Marine Drive bike lanes between 26th and 31st Streets.
Ministry of Transportation & Frustration - Mike C/Don
- Requesting a meeting but still no response yet
- Multiple broken sections of Stanley Park Causeway fencing have finally been fixed, asked how this could happen faster in the future,
- Will discuss any improvement plans they have for 2025/26
- Will discuss creating a prioritized list of operations related GAPs to be fixed
