Revision as of 08:21, 10 May 2014
- Attendance: Peter, Antje, Heather, Fiona, Dianne, Karine, Tony, Ellen, Tom, Dave
- Announcements
- Open house new Keith Road bridge over Lynn Creek May 15, 5-8pm, Holiday Inn 700 Old Lillooet Road
- Cool North Shore theme for May: Reducing Your Footprint from Transportation: Commute by Bike. Cool Drinks Event May 27 - Jay will speak.
- 4th Street bike route
- Karine wrote a letter from HUB to mayor and councillors
- a lot of traffic and cyclists must detour around construction
- it is planned to eventually become an AAA bike route
- she got a response from the mayor saying they will discuss it further
- Green Necklace at Mahon Park: Greenway along Jones Ave
- Heather has drafted and circulated a HUB letter for comment
- She is concerned about the fact that it is only 3m wide not AAA, the transition from the east side to the west at 16th, and with parking on both sides it will be too narrow for cyclists on the road with sharrows
- Following a discussion, two realistic options were agreed on: traffic diverters at 16th and 19th to make it a traffic calmed street and remove parking on non park side to allow enough space for cyclists
- Heather would like input to the letter by noon tomorrow and asks us to fill out survey on the website
- Ironworkers Memorial bridge update
- Antje said a letter was sent about the Main St on ramp but there are no funds to widen the sidewalk, so it was suggested that MLAs be approached to get funds
- Dollarton off ramp is also bad but MoT will widen it and move the crosswalk
- Tony almost fell into traffic entering from the south end of the bridge
- Richard is writing a letter to MLAs about additional improvement needed
- Highway 1 interchanges redesign in Lower Lynn (Will, 2min)
- Highway 1 in West Van, Capilano River to Taylor Way, update
- Antje reported that West van will re-open the fence on the south side at 3rd Street
- John Calimente will help us and work with MoT and widen path down to Keith on the north side
- the letter from Mot was not very encouraging as they seem reluctant to make it easier for cyclists to ride on the north side of the Jersey barriers
- Cyclist/pedestrian conflict on Spirit Trail in Norgate
- There is lots of bikes using the Spirit Trail which should have been made wider than the current 3.0 m
- Eric Lund from the Norgate association wants to meet next week to discuss a strategy with HUB
- We agreed that a good solution would be a separated two-way bike lane on Welch St. between Pemberton and Whonoak and consideration could be given to make Welch one way for cars
- Upper Capilano Road bike lanes (5min)
- DNV Transportation Planning Advisory Committee (2min)
- We should accept the offer from roger Basson of an official seat for HUB on the committee and leave Nelson as a member at large?
- HUB delegation presentation to DNV council - dry run
- Antje showed a few of her preliminary slides and entertained comments and suggestion from the group
- It was sugested that the safe routes to schools program be included in the presentation
