    • Finishing up the bridge and ramps, should be open early in the New Year

District of West Vancouver - Paul/Peter/Mike

19 December meeting with Mayor Sager

  • Paul and Peter met with the mayor for just over one hour.
  • The principal reason he wanted to meet with us was to update us on his pre-election proposal to develop a multi-use pathway on the CN railbed between Horseshoe Bay and Whistler.
  • He has made contact with a number of people who have supported his proposal, including a company that would like to sponsor the initiative.
  • He asked for the support of HUB and in turn said he would support our goals.
  • We suggested that because the proposal extends beyond the District's boundary, it would be good to get the support of the BC Cycling Coalition.
  • Paul had prepared a briefing note which he gave to the mayor and we used it as a basis to inform him on some of the previous plans to improve active transportation in the District. This included the 2010 West Vancouver Strategic Transporation Plan, and its follow-up Technical Implementation Committee, the 2018 OCP, TransLink's recently released Transport 2050 with its 10-Year Priorities, and the ongoing development of a District mobility plan.
  • We also informed him of our major bike infrastructure priorities for the District, including North Shore HUB's goal of a Marine to Main route and a dedicated route for cyclists between Ambleside and the Welch Street Bridge.
    • Peter notes; Mayor Mark Sager is newly elected, Councillors-Linda Watt,Scott Snider,Christine Cassidy(new this term) + Peter Lambur,Sharon Thompson,Gambiola Nora (Incumbents).

Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure- Don/Mike

  • Phibbs Exchange
    • Phase 1 just started (complete by May-2023?)
      • Detours with signage in place. The connection between Orwell and south side of main is a long ugly detour via Mtn Highway, or ride with traffic on the off-ramp. They will try to improve this in month or so if they can widen the off-ramp once they move some utilities.
    • Phase 2 will start after Phase 1 and finish in late 2024. Detours should be much better for this phase.

Communications & Outreach - Rueben/Antje/Paul/Heather

  • let us know if there is something we should communicate about - blocked bike lanes, new infrastructure, etc.
  • Twitter
    • Rueben is documenting Esplanade construction and has created a list of other locations for regular posting of infrastructure on Twitter
  • Misc
    • Duncan has an initiative with SD44 he would like to share FYI, also any already involved. Not necessarily a HUB initiative.

Schools - Paul Janzen

  • No updates for the school programs currently. Instruction recommences mid March.
