Election 2011: Cindy Dekker
Hi Heather,
Here are my responses to the cycling survey sent out by Peter Scholefield.
1. What modes of transportation do you normally use within Metro Vancouver?
I regularly use the Blue Bus to commute to downtown and the Canada line
to go to the airport. I ride my bike for pleasure and to meet fellow biking
friends across town and as well I drive my car.
2. How would you support and encourage parents and children to cycle to school to promote healthy and livable communities?
Cycling to and from school at some of our schools can be very challenging
especially for younger students due to our topography(very hilly) However we can and do support them by providing proper bike storage at our sites and always encouraging other modes of getting to school. I also support our
Spirit Trail initiative and construction.
3. What role do you think the school board has in supporting and promoting cycling education and training for children?
School Boards and educators are expected to do more and more with limited
resources therefore supporting cycling education and training would have to be done in conjunction with parents (PAC) and other partner groups such as yourselves and the WVPD. We area always happy to promote and communicate
with our partners any initiative that benefits children.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your questions.
Regards
Cindy Dekker
