HUB North Shore Committee meeting July 4, 2024

Attending; Don (chair), Peter, Fiona, Derrick, Paul S., Helen Van dear Heide, Rhonda; Paul J, Stewart, Rueben (online),

Agenda addition

Paul S. added a review of the Active Transportation Summit held in New Westminster last week in June.

Goals

We are still seeking a liaison for CNV and an events coordinator.

Events

Blueridge Good Neighbour Day - Sat June 15th Staffed by Stewart and Michael with thanks.

Shipyards 5th birthday - CNV, Sat July 20th 14:00-20:00 will need 6 people for 3 shifts:So far Don, Paul J, Derrick Need a few more volunteers Asked Brendon to provide eCargo bike

Action item - Don to assign shift times and check on cargo bike an availability.

City of North Vancouver - Don(temporary)

Casano overpass has all permits and funding arranged. Construction to begin in 2025. A question was asked regarding connections to Grand Boukevard.

Midtown Connector being given priority. HUB would like to see it being done in conjunction with a North/South route.

First Nations - Kira No update.

District of North Vancouver - Duncan/Stephen/Stewart

Stewart met with DNV in June.

Spirit Trail northern route is back in consideration. Stewart and Steven rode a proposed route outlined by a citizens’ group. An info session was held June 26.

Phibbs exchange phase one complete. All considerations of bridge access must go through MOTI. Work will continue on flood risk mitigation.

Mountain hiway work has commenced between 18-24 Steets.

Lime bike coverage has been extended to include Deep Cove.

DNV has completed three projects that deserve recognition: Main Street upgrades Riverside bike lanes Queens road eastbound Also Mount Seymour Parkway upgrades are underway.

Action item Stewart to draft letter of appreciation for the above.


District of West Vancouver - Paul/Peter/Mike

The Environment committee forwarded 16 recommendations to council regarding Active Transportation.

Reduced speed limits have not been addressed as council feels intersection improvements are needed firstly.

Cypress village proposal has passed. Now routes to area amenities need to be built.

Members of DWV environmental committee attended Go by bike week station.

Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure - Mike/Don MOTI has asked for an assessment of the performance of their maintenance contractor Miller Capilano

Action item Don to respond to Miller Cap (Abbott) with a HUB contact for road maintenance issue.

Communications & Outreach - Rueben/Paul/Heather

Rueben considering adding another platform to our communications strategy.

Schools - Paul Janzen

2nd annual HUB staff/education department ride was held last week in June. Ride by to show infrastructure upgrades made in Burnaby in conjunction with our Burnaby committee.

Agenda addition

Paul Stott reviewed the AT Summit consisting of 30 breakout sessions and 8 keynote speakers including Minister Fleming and Elder Ruth from Tsawassen First Nations.
