Maple Ridge

Objective One

Continue to engage with decision makers and provide feedback on the developing Strategic Transportation Plan.

Actions to support

Presentation to Council on appropriate bicycle infrastructure for bike lanes. Written final feedback for the Transportation Plan. Create ongoing opportunities for engagement with staff and Council, such as taking them on rides, inviting them to meetings, and presenting as a delegation at council meetings.

Benefits

The STP guides decisions and investments over the next 10 years. The city of MR has been building MUPs in inappropriate places, making cycling more dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians. We need to educate the council on the importance of funding "the right bike infrastructure in the right place," so that AAA feel safe and are safe.

Lead person or co-leads

Jackie Chow

How will you know you've achieved this objective?

If we see our feedback incorporated in the STP and bicycle infrastructure that they design build in the future.

Objective Two

Promote Active School Travel.

Actions to support

Connect with other stakeholders in the community and collaborate with them, such as climate HUB and TAC, to promote Active School Travel. Connect with DPAC and PACs to share info and resources. Engage with SD#42 with guidance from HUB Head Office. Engage with engineering when necessary. Engage council when possible and encourage collaboration between the city and the School District Trustees/Board.

Benefits

There is very little opportunity around schools in MR for children to actively transport themselves to school and we need this to improve.

Lead person or co-leads

Jenny Wright

How will you know you've achieved this objective?

We will know if we see children cycling more often to and from school.

Objective Three

Increase community engagement and get feedback and data from citizens of Maple Ridge to support the need for improved cycling infrastructure.

Actions to support

Participate in the PM parade. Participate at GETI Fest and Earth Day with Cycle/Recycle Giveaway, poll attendees to find out the challenges they have for cycling more in MR, and engage attendees and promote membership to our committee. Arrange 2 group rides for the public. Promote our website with more frequent contributions.

Benefits

To engage the citizens of MR in advocating for better bicycle routes and infrastructure and to encourage them to engage with the city staff and council. Also, to gather hard data so that when we are engaging with decision makers, they will understand what the citizens are asking for.

Lead person or co-leads

Antoinette Sigrun Michael Michael and Ivan

How will you know you've achieved this objective?

If we see increased membership, city staff and council understanding that we bring views from the wider community, increased activity on our website, increased interest in our HUB committee by the public.

Pitt Meadows

Objective One

Continue contributing to the planning for the CP rail underpass at Harris.

Actions to support

Letter writing and giving feedback as needed.

Benefits

To advocate for safe bike and pedestrian infrastructure being incorporated into the design of the underpass.

Lead person or co-leads

Peter Jongbloed.

How will you know you've achieved this objective?

Safe bike and pedestrian infrastructure gets incorporated into the design of the underpass.
