Meeting Summary: July 14, 2016

- Minutes Review
- Main items from the last meeting were the review of recent events and Melissa, Chaun, Events Coordinator for the Rivershed Society of BC talking to us about FraserFEST
- Review of past and planning for upcoming events - FraserFEST
- Lynn Valley Day was rained out at s but lots came to our booth at North van City Canada Day.
- Next year we should plan in advance to participate in the Canada Day parade.
- Decided not to participate in Deep Cove days on 28 August or car free day in North Van due to the cost to enter a booth ($175 for a booth at car free day)
- We will consider participating in the Coho Festival in West Vancouver on Sunday, 11 September at Ambleside Park.
- Tony suggested that we consider organizing a passion bike event next summer (https://www.facebook.com/passionbikevalencia/) which is a family event at sunrise.

- Nelson briefed the goup on the Biketoria webinar about the success of planning for and installing cycling infrastructure in Victoria.
- Political will and community engagement were important factors contributing to the success.
- 5 km of AAA bike lanes this year with plans for 20 more km by 2018.

- Spirit Trail tunnel- engineering plans are underway.
- East Keith and Grand Boulevard - construction was scheduled to begin in July, with completion expected in December, 2016.

- As a member of the DNV transportation committee, Nelson participated in the Maplewood Village stakeholder workshop which was the first stakeholder meeting - another is expected in October.
- Fred went to a developer open house on the project which is planned to contain 180 suites and 280 parking spots as required in the bylaw.
- We should see how it merges with Spirit Trial and bike master Plan.
- DNV Public Library bike racks- Antje found out plan it is to put bike racks outside and three at Lynn Valley
- DNV should follow TransLink bike rack guidelines
- Antje informed the meeting about a potential greenway Blueridge to Parkgate where there is currently a hiking trail and a perimeter trail around the golf course.
- On 30 June, Tony and Antje and Peter met with MLAs Yamamoto, Sultan and Thornthwaite about our proposed cycle highway alongside Hwy1 from Mountain Hwy exchange to IWMB.
- They were very interested in the proposal and would follow up with MoTI staff.
- Antje will post map of the propsed route on wiki along with the prepared with slide presentation.

- Heather Johnston met with John Calimente on the planned route of the Spirit Trail in Horseshoe Bay with a two way spearated bike lanes on the east side of Royal Avenue.
- We are not sure this is the best plan as it is downhill and could be dangerous
- Heather will meet again with John after the 25 July council meeting which will discuss the Horseshoe Bay Streetscape Plan which could impact the proposed route on royal Avenue.

Nicik used to live in Holland secure automated bicycle parking systems developed by Mazdis (http://www.mazdis.com/). Nick Mani is the CEO of Mazdis. He presented some of these very space efficient and visually appealing parking systems at our HUB North Shore Committee's monthly meeting on Thursday evening. In response to our question about cost, he estimated that the unit capable of storing 35 bicycles would cost about $40,000.
Nick said that these systems tend to attract more cyclists to locations where they are installed diificult to find parkijng bike stolen in Vancouver more bikes in a smaller speac make in automated not paid parking donlt need bike locks trans link $10 perspective2m x 6 m 35 bikes about $40,000 2.3m x 4.2 m store 54+ bikes 800% more land efficientTranslink has a plan
