Council, at its 11 March meeting, voted against Engineering & Transportation staff's 2nd presentation of its well-prepared plan for a bike lane on the north side of the 2500 block of Marine Drive. Only Councillor Gambioli voted in favour of it. See the following article in the North Shore News at: https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/west-van-puts-brakes-on-one-block-bike-lane-in-dundarave-8538331#google_vignette.
The District's Engineering & Transportation staff are planning on partnering with ICBC this spring/summer to do a Network Screening Study of intersections in West Vancouver to identify safety improvements for peds, bikes, and vehicles, that they can incorporate into a multi-year capital program to improve intersection safety. They hope to have a project agreement with ICBC by the end of the month.
Paul and I will represent HUB North Shore at the 12 April Howe Sound Community Forum meeting. This forum, hosted by Mayor Mark Sager and the District of West Vancouver will feature a Roundtable discussion on Transportation Alternatives and Opportunities in the afternoon from 2:00-3:00. The Honorable Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport, Lana Popham who is an avid cyclist, will be joining the meeting to introduce the topic of trails and bike tourism.
