Liaison Meeting and Group Ride
- On 23 February Paul and Peter and Mike met at the Crema coffee shop for a meeting, then went for a bike ride to Park Royal afterward.
- We discussed some draft comments that Paul had prepared on the engineer drawings that DWV staff had sent us for comment on proposed plans for improving Westmount Road down to 31st and Marine Drive.
- This was not the first time that we have commented on the plans and our main concern remains the fact that the proposed uphill bike lanes, some with buffers, are not consistent along the whole route.
- We also suggested speed cushions on Westmount Road (https://wiki.bikehub.ca/sites/northshore/images/5/5a/Speed_cushions_on_15th_St_east_of_Pemberton_Ave_2022-01-21_IMG_3697_01.JPG) instead of speed humps which are more comfortable and safer for cyclists to ride through.
- After our meeting in the coffee shop, we rode our bikes on our proposed route for a separated bikeway between Ambleside and Park Royal and discussed possible options for a required new bridge across the Pound Road wetland.
New path on Welch Street Bridge
- At the 9th Annual HUB Awards virtual ceremony on 24 February (https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=323246326520137&ref=sharing), the #1 infrastructure improvement award was presented to the Squamish Nation, District of West Vancouver and Park Royal.
- On 11 February, Peter, Paul and Don had previously met on the new path with the respective recipient representatives: Wilson Williams, Mayor Mary Ann Booth and Rick Amantea to present the actual awards (https://wiki.bikehub.ca/sites/northshore/images/d/dc/Recipients_of_HUB_2021_Infrastucture_Improvement_Award_4_x_6_2022-01-11_IMG_3727.jpg). We then retired to the business office of Park Royal where Paul video recorded the thank-you comments from each of the recipients. The videos were shown at the 24 February ceremony.
- We informed North Shore News of the event and they published an article at: https://www.nsnews.com/local-news/new-spirit-trail-bridge-wins-2022-hub-north-shore-infrastructure-award-5103513.
Planned 3 March meeting with DWV Director of Parks, Culture & Community Services
