MSP upgrades moving ahead in 2024 as planned with Translink funding recently secured |
Main Street - North side construction ongoing and on-track. South side remains an issue. Longer term objective to deal with it but space is problem. Doing some initial review of space and talking to Translink re funding due to sharing with buses. |
Phibbs Exchange should be complete May. DNV welcomed feedback. Following extensive concerns raised on Hub group email, feedback has been provided, and awaiting response. Longer term plans for greenway/bike route all through Orwell. Further details including timing requested. |
Spirit Trail East - Staff have been requested to go back to council on May 13th to provide update due to opposition. Planning is pushing ahead. Need to contact staff to see how we can support. |
Lynn Valley Road - preparing implementation plan for Phase 2 and looking to tie-in stretch by mall. Have translink funding for transit study. |
Capilano Rd - Ridgewood to Hwy - Developing designs for protected bike lane. Trying to encourage MOTI to deliver their section too. |
E-cargo bike scheme https://www.dnv.org/streets-transportation/e-cargo-bikes About to go out to tender expect at least 2 bids. Was aiming for June but likely to be a bit later in the summer. Pilot will run for 2 years with 7 stations and likely 9 bikes across two types (box and long tail). |

Peter updated us on various topics. Also here is Paul's summary of the April 12 meeting of the Howe Sound Biosphere meeting highlighted by discussions of a MUP from Horseshoe Bay to Whistler: |
12 April Howe Sound Forum discussion re: a Howe Sound multi-purpose trail |
⚫ | |||
Also Peter noted there will be a 7 May Environment Committee meeting that is open tp anyone interested. |
This meeting presented Mayor Sager with an opportunity to follow up with his proposal for a MUP between Horseshoe Bay and Whistler. |
⚫ | |||
On behalf of DWV, the mayor hosted this semi-annual forum and arranged for BC Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lana Popham to attend. |
Through his work with DWV Environment Committee Peter would like to bring a motion to council that they explore funding: |
The Minister presented her ideas and seeks feedback on the concept of a long-distance (100km+) multi-use trail between Vancouver and Pemberton. |
*Additional protected bike lanes (currently a scant 25 metres |
She set a goal of compiling options and issues for discussion in July 2024. |
*Updates to the Mobility plan. |
The forum participants were separated into several round table groups to consider the proposal options and raise questions. |
*E-scooter trials. |
The Minister’s proposal was generally well received by the meeting participants, both as a low-carbon tourism initiative and for its economic benefits. |
*Cycling route map updates. |
The possible trail routes and their likely costs and possible public and private funding sources were discussed. |
The Mayor of Squamish informed the forum of the advanced work already in place for a trail between Pemberton and Squamish, and the ongoing planning for a link between Squamish and Lions Bay. |
Several speakers however expressed concern about visitor growth and overuse impacts on indigenous and natural assets. |
