The Environment committee forwarded 16 recommendations to council regarding Active Transportation.
Peter updated us on various topics. Also here is Paul's summary of the April 12 meeting of the Howe Sound Biosphere meeting highlighted by discussions of a MUP from Horseshoe Bay to Whistler:

*Note this group is comprised of reps from First Nations, DWV Mayor and other municipal officials, 2 MLA's, MP and others.


Reduced speed limits have not been addressed as council feels intersection improvements are needed firstly.
Also Peter noted there will be a 7 May Environment Committee meeting that is open tp anyone interested.
The time of the meeting is 4:30 p.m. and the location is the Cedar Room, 3rd floor of West Vancouver Community Centre.
Through his work with DWV Environment Committee Peter would like to bring a motion to council that they explore funding:
*Additional protected bike lanes (currently a scant 25 metres
*Updates to the Mobility plan.
*E-scooter trials.
*Cycling route map updates.


Cypress village proposal has passed. Now routes to area amenities need to be built.
Paul J brought up an opportunity that Cathy made us aware of: DWV is looking to add people to the Planning Committee:

Deadline for apps May 31.

There were discussions surrounding potential improvements to the right angle turn on Spirit Trail near Park Royal where it passes beside Cap river and under the railway bridge. Peter says DWV are aware of potential collisions and are seeking a solution. Installing mirrors as are in place at Mosquito creek was suggested as a potential remedy.

Mike mentioned that Strava has a major initiative to provide cycling data termed Strava Metro not related to HUB establishing a "club" on Strava.

HUB North Shore Committee meeting July 4, 2024

Meeting commenced 6:31 pm

‘’’Agenda additions’’’ - Paul S. added a review of the Active Transportation Summit held in New Westminster last week in June.


Goals

We are still seeking a liaison for CNV and an events coordinator.

Events

Blueridge Good Neighbour Day - Sat June 15th Staffed by Stewart and Michael with thanks.

Shipyards 5th birthday - CNV, Sat July 20th 14:00-20:00 will need 6 people for 3 shifts:So far Don, Paul J, Derrick Need a few more volunteers Asked Brendon to provide eCargo bike

Action item - Don to assign shift times and check on cargo bike an availability.

City of North Vancouver - Don(temporary) Casano overpass has all permits and funding arranged. Construction to begin in 2025. A question was asked regarding connections to Grand Boukevard.

Midtown Connector being given priority. HUB would like to see it being done in conjunction with a North/South route.

First Nations - Kira No update.


District of North Vancouver - Duncan/Stephen/Stewart Stewart met with DNV in June.

Spirit Trail northern route is back in consideration. Stewart and Steven rode a proposed route outlined by a citizens’ group. An info session was held June 26.

Phibbs exchange phase one complete. All considerations of bridge access must go through MOTI. Work will continue on flood risk mitigation.

Mountain hiway work has commenced between 18-24 Steets.

Lime bike coverage has been extended to include Deep Cove.

DNV has completed three projects that deserve recognition: Main Street upgrades Riverside bike lanes Queens road eastbound Also Mount Seymour Parkway upgrades are underway.

Action item Stewart to draft letter of appreciation for the above.
