Andrew to send Jonathan the new Action Plan

Agenda items

United Boulevard discussion

Jeff has files on this gap going back to 2014 pertaining to discussions with RAC. RAC meetings with MOTI, Coquitlam engineering before Lougheed became MOTI property At this time waterfront route was very uncertain and the Braid bailey bridge had not been improved yet.

Today Sapperton Green development is going to improve CVG from Brunette.

Jeff and RAC assisted MOTI in creating Gap priority lists. MOTI study said best solution is on Coquitlam property.

Jeff thought that Lougheed is clearly the most direct. They did spend some time thinking about going behind the big box stores. Coquitlam:

  1. We don't own it.
    1. This means they can't apply for co-operative funding.
  2. It has multiple ROWs owned by multiple agencies including federal (RR)
  3. There are riparian concerns
  4. There are utility ROWs.

Jeff and RAC said that this is the reason for doing something on United. There are four lanes on United, a study showed 3 is enough with alternating sides for bus stops.

October 29th 2019, Andrew and Jack sent a letter with a proposed solution (north-side route on United on the street) Jeff is for doing whatever Coquitlam think is best; and that something on-street is likely what is the best option.

Action item: Andrew and Colin to update the letter and we'll send it to Coquitlam.

MHB-Argue Street route

Jeff thinks there is nothing to this bid. No one in the local office knows anything about it; just a purchasing manager from Kamloops whose name is on the bid.

Coquitlam Center to Port Mann assessment ride

Colin, Leon, Vince, Dragana all went. Committee members divided the route up into six areas. Worst areas are throught the bridge across Hwy 1 and United.

West of King Albert it looks like we're getting a MUP that will connect with Braid Street Station.

They did see people riding on United.

2030, new overpass at Pitt River Road/Lougheed is supposed to be coming with bike facilities

Action items that came out of this: 1. Improve paving, wayfinding and lighting along the creepy section where ownership transfers to KFN. 2. Talk to BC Housing about removing the curfew for access to Riverview stretch 3. Get rid of the chain (replace with bollards) 4. Fix slip lanes across the overpass/ install MUP. 5. Ask Mainroad to clear creepy underbrush around the MUP. 6. Light MUP along United

Colony Farm vs. United. Pipeline is going through; can we use that trail?

King Albert Greenway extensions E and W

Update on west extension: from Blue Mtn to North Rd via Sydney Avenue.

There is a building in the middle of Sydney Avenue. When it's redeveloped Coquitlam are supposed to have them add a ROW for cycling.

Let's monitor any developments that may come down the pipe for eastward extensions.

Sasamat Greenway

PoMo are interested in a MUP from First Avenue to Heritage Mountain Boulevard, if possible. Some NIMBYism about any development along Alderside (but it's already nice and quiet).

Colleen is promoting a walkway through Belcarra. Belcarra Community Path around the other side of Sasamat is facing sharp local opposition. Action item for Colin: Co-ordinate a survey to gauge support for the various sections of the pathway.

Bowser/ Sasamat fire road around the east side of the lake is a viable route, it's just extremely bumpy and poorly drained.

Kingsway MUP connector to McAllister overpass

Colin is working on a letter to PoCo regarding this connection. It's waiting on Approvals. The connection is supposed to use a section of the Donald bike path that is to be built for bikes only. Colin identified two poor intersections as well as an 200 meter area of McAllister between Maple and Shaughnessy that he's asking for improvements on. Action item: Colin to send off this letter

St. Johns MUP

Force of Nature don't really like this MUP. HUB Burnaby don't really like it. Peter Stary doesn't really like it.

Action item: Colin wants to write a letter to Port Moody asking them not to forget the ultimate goal: separated lanes along Clarke PBLs.

Intersection work

Colin figured out that asking PoCo for flashing beacons on specific intersections gets results quickly. Email your city if you have issues!

PoMo updates

Guildford/Murray, St. George slow street, St.Johns MUP.

STP updates =

Colin to solicit feedback from the committee on latest round of changes

Bike maps

Coming in April. How many do we want? 40/50.

Projects to watch

PoCo climate action plan is coming soon

Colin will send out an email

PoCo mobility survey

http://www.portcoquitlam.ca/seniormobility

Gap 996 Pipeline/David

Colin was corresponding with Aaron Dixon about this dangerous porkchop intersection. Coquitlam are interested in increasing cyclist protection around this intersection through "smart channelization" that reallocates road from pedestrian islands to cyclist ROWs.

Action item: Colin and Colleen to work on a letter recommending simply getting rid of the sliplane altogether.

David Avenue, Heritage Mountain Blvd to Coquitlam border

PoMo exploring improvement in lighting.

Overtaking by Coast Mountain buses

Should we do a letter to Coast Mountain bus company asking them to be more mindful? Colin to work on it.
