'''TriCities Cycling Gaps''' |
'''Ministry Highways gaps''' |
1.The cycling route parallel to Lougheed Highway through the Riverview lands currently ends at Holly Drive. An extension of the route through to the Port Mann Bridge would connect Coquitlam Town Center and Port Coquitlam to Surrey. Our preferred option is a continuation of the path down Lougheed before turning down the Perimeter Trail at Colony Farm Regional Park, continuing through an underpass below the Mary Hill Bypass and then connecting to United Boulevard. |
2.Barnet Highway connections to Port Moody are unacceptable. Some sections through Coquitlam are still sharrows and the painted bike lanes disappear altogether at the Port Moody border. This is unsafe for everyone. |
3.Lougheed Highway between the Pitt River bridge and Coquitlam Town Center is very unsafe. The Coquitlam stretch has no protections between Christmas Way and Pinetree Way, and the Port Coquitlam stretch jumps between painted lanes and no lane at all. There is a need to provide continuous, safe path for cyclists. |
4.Enable a cycling connection along Mary Hill Bypass between Shaughnessy and United Blvd. At present, the shoulder narrows dangerously over the Coquitlam River in both directions. We will continue to work with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure as well as the cities of Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam to advance a multi-use path on the south side of this route. |
5.Fix the Lougheed-Brunette intersection properly. The bike lanes on Lougheed disappear and become "sharrows", posing a safety hazard for everyone, and Brunette is also unsafe. Traffic volumes and speeds exceed what anyone could consider safe using "shared lanes". |
6.Fix remaining issues with the Pitt River Bridge. Connections from the south are particularly bad, and the descent from the Traboulay Trail dikes to the Mary Hill Bypass is steep, narrow, heavily treed, and rough. This must be fixed before many others get hurt. |
'''Other gaps''' |
1.Central Valley Greenway extension: United Blvd still missing approx. 600m section to connect CVG to PMH1 facilities. Proposing temp route along United pending development of Fraser Mills |
2.Kingsway MUP, coming between 2022-2023 |
3.Barnet road(Coquitlam) unofficial bike lane needs safety improvements to make it official |
4.Crosstown bike route completion (Coquitlam) |
5.Connection between Kingsway (PoCo)and Coquitlam(e.g. Chilko/Lougheed) |
6.Bike lanes parallel to Clarke Road in Coquitlam. Coquitlam plans to build as development opportunities arise. |
'''A few more notes:''' |
• The first order of priority for "gap logging" is Ministry highways, and related crossings/junctions. |
• All other gaps in jurisdiction - anything and everything related to infrastructure issues - should be added to this list as soon as you are able. |
• The main purpose of this exercise is to help the Tri-Cities Committee elevate priorities, and get appropriate support from RAC and HUB staff. |
• Please read the User Guide, as it reinforces the following point - we will make necessary changes to this tool to make it work for the committees. |
