'''Education & Outreach'''

* Sea-to-Sky mapping project: Two SFU students, Aaron and Mike, briefed us on their bike safety project in which they plan to use GIS to produce a map showing the most dangerous sections for cyclists on the Sea-to-Sky highway between West Vancouver and Whistler. Ann is auditing and helping them with the project. It is planned to present the results to MoT and MP John Weston. It was suggested that they give us a presentation on their project and this presentation could be open to the public. Ann offered to help organize this, probably sometime in March. The results of the project will include some proposals on how to mitigate some of the safety concerns.

* North Shore bike map update: Antje said the consultant plans to have a first draft of the map ready by the end of February. Subsequently, a meeting with municipal staff from the three participating municipalities will be convened to decide what layers of information to include on the map and input for cyclists on routes will be obtained. It is planned to have a final version of the map ready for printing in April. Antje was interviewed by CBC on Wednesday morning (http://www.cbc.ca/earlyedition/columnists/highvelocity/).

* Presentation to VACC meeting on 11 January: Peter reported on his 11 January briefing to the VACC board (see:http://northshore.vacc.bc.ca/images/7/7b/Slides_for_VACC_board_presentation_on_11-01-12.pdf) in which he was told each regional committee can have access up to $400 annually, can be represented on the board by applying to become a board member and learned that VACC will not be a delegate at the Velo-city conference in June but have submitted a paper for presentation and plan to organize a pre-conference event.

* Presentation to Rotary Club North Vancouver in April: Antje has been approached to give a presentation on the north shore bike map project. It was suggested that the presentation also include other activities of the the VACC-NS. They want a presentation at one of their noon-hour meetings so Peter agreed to give them one in April after he returns for Palm Springs.

* Meeting with MP John Weston on 11 February at 1100 in John's office at 17th and Marine Drive in West Van: Peter was invited to this meeting but is not avialable so Ann offered to go and can tell the meeting about the Sea-to-Sky project.

* 30 January meeting of Cycling Plan Implementation Committee: Peter reported on the positive results of this week's second meeting in which most of the time was spent discussing possible modifications to the existing cycling network plan. A suggestion was made and agreed by others that results of the committee's work, specifically the proposed revisions to the map of the West Van Cycling Network, be presented to the public at an open house. Peter commented that he was not aware of such public information plans by the Engineering and Transportation Department but agreed that it would be a useful way to advertise the network to the public and promote cycling in the District.

* Redevelopment of the vacant waterfront area south of the North Shore Automall: It was thought that this development could provide an opportunity for some bicyele infrastucture, probably it would be related to extending the Spirit Trail. It was agreed to monitor this development.

* IWMB bike ride {Fiona) 4 from MoT 3 from VACC on ride today 2 February
