Meeting minutes for May 2017

In attendance: Andrew, Jack, Simon, Ellie, Meredith, Rachel, Leon

  • Group ride planning for Sunday May 28th
    • Waivers
      • Meredith to handle bringing extra waivers on the day of the ride.
      • We'll make sure to send out pdfs ahead of time though and encourage riders to print them themselves
    • Publicity
      • Let's use the facebook group and email Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge
    • Route
      • ~30 km Gillnetter-Stomping Grounds loop sounds about right.
      • Andrew to map a preliminary route and email the group with it
  • TCT 25
    • This year is the 25th anniversary of the Trans-Canada Trail. Leon filled us in on Trans-Canada Trail Day rides and celebrations planned for the 26th.
  • Canada Day celebrations in Coquitlam
    • Group has passed on running a HUB booth as none of us has time to run a booth that day.
  • Borrowing a watt bike to add interest to HUB booths (potentially at our Poco booth in August)
    • Andrew to email Pete Smith @ Norco
  • Cycle Highways Working Group
    • The group agreed that Tri-Cities LC's submissions to this group are worthy: they are United Blvd, Mary Hill Bypass and Lougheed Highway from Pitt River to Coquitlam.
    • However, we don't think they are particularly tractable at the level of local government.
    • Andrew to look into proposing a separated lane along Guildford instead via this group. Guildford is not as huge and regional as our official choices but it has a lot of virtues:
      • connects two municipalities
      • connects lots of schools
      • connects arts and cultural venues
      • lines up with Coquitlam's evident interest in getting kids riding to school, and is likely fairly tractable at a municipal level
    • Jack to look into setting up a meeting with a city contact about this
    • Andrew to write up our little position paper on Guildford, with Andrew Picard's approval
  • HUB AGM for Sept 23rd
    • Library not formally booked yet, but Jack is on it.
  • Updates from Ellie re. goings-on at HUB Central
    • Bike-in movie night on May 27th
    • Bike to school week
    • Bike shop days
    • BTWW
    • Bike the Night Sept 16th
    • Andrew P., Erin, Ellie will attend a workshop with municipal transportation engineers.
    • new education flyers
    • Meetings with Mainroad re. routes that need cleaning more frequently
      • Group spitballed some routes, noted that in a lot of cases making phone calls gets results
      • Idea: possible sticker/ flyer campaign in for lampposts in bad areas, featuring the locally useful numbers to call and emails to email
