North Shore Winter Bike to Work

Celebration Stations Offer Refreshments and Prizes

Vancouver, Canada – October 28, 2010 – The North Shore Committee of the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition (VACC) announced today the kick off for Bike to Work week on the North Shore. Starting Monday, November 1, Bike to Work is a program that encourages workplaces and workers to champion cycling as a healthy mode of transportation to get to work. Teams from workplaces compete to log the most kilometers during the week and last year teams from over 50 North Shore companies logged a total of 11,349 km.

This year features four North Shore Bike to Work Commuter Celebration stations where cyclists can enjoy free refreshments, get route and gear advice, free repairs and enter prize draws

“The Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition organized the first Bike to Work Week program in 2007, inspired by grassroots Bike to Work efforts that originated on the North Shore, so it is exciting that we are able to offer cyclists four support stations this year,” said chair, North Shore VACC, Jay MacDonald. “A lot of people think biking in the winter is not an option, but this is simply not true. Next week, we’ll see plenty of new riders trying cycle commuting for the first time.

Bike to Work Week has recorded a growth of 163% in the number of cyclists counted at commuter stations since 2007. To sign up, or to find a map of locations, visit http://www.biketoworkmetrovan.ca/
