Updates

1. United pathway: MOTI has agreed to clear brush and look into lighting the pathway!
2. Riverview: BC Housing has agreed to do some signage and brush clearing along the pathway. Colin and Andrew will be going on an assessment ride on Sunday at 7:00 AM to scope out where lighting needs to go. The committee wants to pursue two signage systems: one marking the road route through the site, and the other through the trail. Depending on lighting and comfort on a wooded path, riders could make their own best decision. Vince says even in rush hour the route was always very safe. Dragana mentions that the roads need sharrows on it to be considered an official bike route. Colin and Andrew will go on an assessment ride. Colin will talk to TransLink to see if he can get some concepts of what proper site signage would look like.
3. Mary Hill Bypass RFP: Ministry said in mid-May it's been put on pause due to issues with stakeholders. Colin will email the Ministry and see if there has been any update
4. Beedie lands: Vince reached out to the city to see if we could get stakeholder status for the Beedie Waterfront Village lands, and we were told to go through the official process via public hearings. Vince watched the public hearings and noted lots of community support for the development. Andrew has heard back from Beedie who has told him to wait until fall (after the rezoning passes) to get in touch with them.

Municipal Election stuff

No major updates.

Go By Bike Week

Andrew, Vince, and Dragana all volunteered at GBBW events. All 3 noted a major increase in traffic this year compared to other years. Having the city staff nearby was a nice touch! Many people asked about Guildford Way protected bike lanes specifically. The locations were great choices. Andrew will email HUB Central and ask them to maintain the same stations and concept for next year given the overwhelming success.

Hybrid meetings

Looks a bit complicated. The committee will resume discussions in September and make a decision then.

HUB Central assessment ride

TransLink staff, including CEO Kevin Quinn, rode through Coquitlam and Port Moody on bike for an assessment ride. There was a clear interest in TransLink staff and getting things built and funded. There is optimism in the air.

Other Business

1. TransLink has now launched a wayfinding volunteer program at bike routes. Vince wonders if they will do a similar thing for bike navigation. The committee will keep an eye open!
2. Andrew has a request to see if HUB would be interested in doing a table at the upcoming Farmer's Market. Andrew will send out some days and the committee will check their calendars
3. Bike counting. Dragana and Vince both did counting this year. Dragana chose Foster/Poirier area and noted similar counts to last year, but fewer people. Vince chose the bridge on the King Albert Greenway and noted much fewer people. Maybe this is because it wasn't done on GBBW?
