Updates

1. United pathway: MOTI has agreed to clear brush and look into lighting the pathway!
2. Riverview: BC Housing has agreed to do some signage and brush clearing. Colin and Andrew will be going on an assessment ride on Sunday at 7:00 AM to scope out where lighting needs to go. The committee wants to pursue two signage systems: one marking the road route through the site, and the other through the trail. Depending on lighting and comfort on a wooded path, riders could make their own best decision. Vince says even in rush hour the route was always very safe. Dragana mentions that the roads need sharrows on it to be considered an official bike route. Colin and Andrew will go on an assessment ride. Colin will talk to TransLink to see if he can get some concepts of what proper site signage would look like.
3. Mary Hill Bypass RFP: Ministry said in mid-May it's been put on pause due to issues with stakeholders. Colin will email the Ministry and see if there has been any update
4. Beedie lands: Vince reached out to the city to see if we could get stakeholder status for the Beedie Waterfront Village lands, and we were told to go through the official process via public hearings. Vince watched the public hearings and noted lots of community support for the development. Andrew has heard back from Beedie who has told him to wait until fall (after the rezoning passes) to get in touch with them.

Municipal Election stuff

No major updates.

Bedwell Bay Road MUP

Report from Colleen. Unfortunately canned at the April 25 council meeting, but not necessarily gone forever. Some misinformation circulating made it harder to get it through. Paused for now.

Thermal/Baker Hill

Vince rode it recently and does not feel it's suitable for biking. The staircase between Park and Corona is particularly tough. Leon agrees - especially for people using e-bikes, staircase is tough. Even with runnels, it would be difficult. Leon suggests a better way parallel to Mariner using Dewdney, Buoy, an alley behind Mariner, Hawser, Plimsoll, cutthroughs, and Spuraway. The committee will pause advocacy on Thermal/Baker.

Port Moody Transportation Committee

Andrew says Port Moody now has a spreadsheet to decide on which routes to prioritize upgrading to AAA from painted lines/not-AAA infra. Port Moody wants quick-build, low cost infrastructure - just like our previous letter asked. Port Moody is considering protecting Guildford to align with Coquitlam's plans, but unsure of how this would work given bike lanes are too narrow. Port Moody also presented the same Bedwell Bay Road presentation we received. The Transportation Committee felt the MUP is better than a 1.8m narrow bike/walking lane on each side.

Tri-City News Ad

Colin made a mistake - this is not the Tri-City News. Dragana has registered HUB Cycling's Tri-Cities Committee as a non-profit in Coquitlam! We will be getting a free advertisement in the non-profit mailout. Samples form Jonathan were presented and everything looks great! Dragana will send off our approval to Jonathan.

Other updates

1. United: The proposed west MUP between King Edward and the waste facility is now tendering! The city is expecting completion later this year. Also, the new Fraser Mills development wants to build bike lanes through it. Maybe a potential collaboration can happen? Vince reached out to the city and has heard nothing. Andrew is now reaching out to Beedie directly. Lots of discussion around the possibilities for timing and what the outcomes will be.
2. McAllister bridge: the bridge across the Coquitlam River has gone to tender! Very exciting.
