1. What modes of transportation do you normally use within Metro Vancouver? Do you ever use a bike for transportation in your municipality?
Myself since I usually have a dog or two in tow tend to drive. I do ride for pleasure , fitness and relaxation. Also attend spin classes in winter due to an injury that would not like wet nor cold.
2. How would you support and encourage cycling for transportation to promote healthy and livable communities?
As roads and trails are in need of upgrading making sure cycling, walking and other modes of getting around are taken in to consideration
3. Do you think the current level of funding for cycling in your municipality is adequate?
I do. If increase need is required and the funds are available then yes funding may increase. This is of coarse up to residents and tax payers who should be brought more in to the decession making process.
4. What would you do to ensure a sustainable and adequate source of cycling funding during your term in office?
Again it is completely up to the citizens who pay the costs.. My hope again is to put in a process that allows more citizens input to these kind of matters. That way we can move faster and efficiently on such issues..
5. What is your level of interest in a public bike-share system integrated with the transit system?
I have seen a simple method of bike-share work in Amsterdam over 20 years ago.. It can work . Schools really need more lockable secure bike stations. My sons could not leave their own bikes at school since they would not be there when they got out of class.. that is not fun.
6. What role do you think the municipality has in supporting and promoting cycling education for children, cyclists and motorists?
Safety and aweness on both sides.. I have seen motorists do things that put cyclists in danger and I have seen cyclists put pedestrians and themselves in danger. Hopefully other modes of transportation will come forward that work well with all. One thing to consider also is the City of North Vancouver is in the middle of a major transportation route for commerce.. We also have no real tree bylaw in place to secure the large trees that clean the air.. To reduce green house gas emissions we must keep commerce flowing and the city green.. Trucks sitting idling in traffic does no one any good. It would also be good to get a proper transit station on the North Shore so we do not have to rely on buses coming from over the bridges.. Lots to consider ...
