1. What modes of transportation do you normally use within Metro Vancouver? Do you ever use a bike for transportation in your municipality?
I am a permanently partially disabled military vet and a bike is not an option now. I do not drive and use public transit now but was a biker prior to about 3 years ago and hope to be again.
2. How would you support and encourage cycling for transportation to promote healthy and livable communities?
The large developments and the increase in the number of cars which goes with it has made it tougher for cyclists because the extra traffic. I do not approve projects like the Safeway proposal that would put 2 18 story and a 12 story high-rises at 13th and Lonsdale. We have to put a stop to the over-development. We need to continue with the network so a person can ride on a dedicated bike lane right across the City.
3. Do you think the current level of funding for cycling in your municipality is adequate?
It is.
4. What would you do to ensure a sustainable and adequate source of cycling funding during your term in office?
The provincial government should be looking at a Lower Mainland system where the big picture is coordinated. They should be funding this effort and are the only ones who can implement a fully coordinated system.
5. What is your level of interest in a public bike-share system integrated with the transit system?
It is not a good answer since two bikes per bus will not handle the need and it slows down an overloaded transit system. The Sea Bus has to be able to accept bikes at all times since it covers a non-bike distance. There should be a system like in Victoria in their blue-bike system, mostly done by a non-profit group.
6. What role do you think the municipality has in supporting and promoting cycling education for children, cyclists and motorists?
Since the libraries are our best resource for educating members of the public, particularly youth, it is the perfect place to use to pass on information and conduct safety sessions.
