13 September 2023 meeting of HUB Burnaby Local Committee via video call
Attendees: Blake, Jasper, Wendy, Arseni (first timer, welcome!), Sebastian, Roger, Julian
- Introductions
- Went over June meeting minutes
- Need to follow up on Midtown report: Blake will email City of Burnaby Transportation Department
- Planning to have (some) meetings in person at BPL. Book a room in time for the Oct meeting.
- PR event to talk to the public about Burnaby's HUB LC.
Maybe not a tent, just the sign and handing out maps.
At BCIT in the morning would require permission and is inconvenient timing.
Better on Central Valley Greenway on the weekend - tentative area to be near the intersection of Still Creek and Gilmore.
Blake will send out a survey sheet to plan the day. - Jasper and Roger reporting on City Council minutes and agendas.
- Gap map. Write a letter suggesting Gamma bike way to connect to Frances St.
- Julian: Transportation committee will start meeting in Nov. Jasper will attend on behalf of the LC.
- Budget
- End of year get-together.
- Might get "Nitro" for discord
- First aid training for public rides valid only for Wendy, Sebastian might do it in time for spring ride.
- Start a sheet to brainstorm and vote on spending topics - Discord: Blake will check access rights for committee members so that we can organise channels and post rules.
- Priorities map should be updated regularly and sent to the city every 6 months. A list-type document would be better for sending to the city. Jasper will look into exporting the map. Need a system to update and track priorities. Create a discord channel to plan.
- Next assessment ride, maybe BC parkway or Sea to River. In spring.
- Blake will send the Frances/Union report to the city.
- Public ride in spring: 4 town centers.
- Jasper reporting: Winston St construction without usable detour until 2025. Jasper will write an email to the City suggesting dedicated infrastructure on Bainbridge between Greenwood and Boadway for people to avoid Winston.
- Went over letters sent.
- Roger and Blake will write a letter to encourage adding elephant's feet to Burnaby bylaw. Make it legal for people to cross on bikes - especially on dedicated bike paths such as Sea to River. Write another letter about green paint and markings in general.
- Cargo bike rental at BPL: write to library staff after gathering ideas on discord.
- Ride suggestions on LC's wiki page: create a few more
- Upcoming HUB AGM: looked at board of director candidates
- Shorten future meetings: start at 7pm and go for 60 min to 90 min with target time for each element on the agenda.
