1. What modes of transportation do you normally use within Metro Vancouver? Do you ever use a bike for transportation in your municipality?
Bus, 2004 Prius, electric bike in my community
2. How would you support and encourage cycling for transportation to promote healthy and livable communities?
I am committed to the implementation of our Strategic Transportation Plan (STP), a hierarchy which puts people first, then bicycles & public transit, movement of goods, single occupancy vehicles.
I supported the creation of our Cycling Network Implementation Plan Working Group, as a goal of the STP, our Cycling Network and Green way Plan needs to be updated. I look forward to supporting their implementation plan.
3. Do you think the current level of funding for cycling in your municipality is adequate?
We have successfully completion the second phase of the Spirit Trail, along Bridge and Welsh Roads to the municipal boundary with the District of North Vancouver. I am committed to a detailed design of the western end of the Spirit Trial in consultation with the neighbours in 2012. We also need to support infrastructure that removes barriers for on street bicycle routes, this is part of the work plan for the Cycling Network WG.
4. What would you do to ensure a sustainable and adequate source of cycling funding during your term in office?
Support the recommendations that will come forward from the Cycling Network Implementation WG. Continue to build stronger relationships with other levels of government, schools, West Vancouver Blue Bus, TransLink, Squamish Nation and community partnerships.
5. What is your level of interest in a public bike-share system integrated with the transit system?
Absolutely
6. What role do you think the municipality has in supporting and promoting cycling education for children, cyclists and motorists?
Implement public outreach and community based marketing initiatives. Bike education programs in schools and through our community centres, promote respectful interaction between drivers and cyclists. Fun to try and turn community days into a car free event. Continue valet bike service for major events in the community.
